Brothels of Wells, Nevada

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Wells, Nevada is a small town that barely straddles the Interstate-80 about 60 miles from the eastern border of Utah. Since the conservative Wendover, Utah, influences West Wendover, prostitution is banned in the area (though after reading a bit online, there is local interest to have brothels on the Nevada side). Supposedly a good number of visitors can come from the Salt Lake area since Wells is the first stop inside of Nevada that has brothels. The two brothels in this town looked semi easy to get to on Google but turned out to be more difficult since a snowstorm had set in and the directions I had found from the street address seemed to be a ways off from the brothels’ red glow I saw in the distance. After speaking with Bella’s on the phone, they directed me easily to the best route to the brothel so I didn’t get more turned around in the snow.

There are two brothels in Wells: Donna’s Ranch and Bella’s Hacienda Ranch. The two are easily located right next door to each other in case you want to try them both out and see what they have to offer. These brothels are on the other side of the tracks in a more commercial side of town away from any homes and, really nothing else is near by. They are hard to see from the freeway due to a large bridge that goes over the railroad tracks past the truck stops, but once you get over the bridge there is a large billboard that points you in the right direction. You can also visit Bella’s Espresso House on the way in or out of town right off of the same freeway exit. They are the same owners of Bella’s Hacienda Ranch, and supposedly serve some great breakfast (though my coffee was so-so), but the “extras” are served only at the brothel. I’m sure if you get a girl in one of the houses they will sure leave you hungry on your way out of town.

Been Working Though Sick, Now In Utah For A WordCamp Seminar

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I’ve been sick this week but that hasn’t kept me from working since the Mining Convention was in town. This is almost the only convention in September that makes a blip on the moneymaking radar. The Mining convention and the Concrete World are on my list of top conventions as far as money goes. Maybe I should keep that secret to myself!

Though I haven’t been feeling too swell, I had plans to go to Salt Lake City this weekend for a seminar on WordPress and listen to hopefully some great speakers. I walk into the building and guess who is semi hosting this event? My arch enemy BlueHost.com. I almost laughed out loud when I saw 5 or 6 of them hovering around the check in table. No thanks I think I will pass up that free t-shirt, guys.

I’ve never been this far north into Utah and frankly, it is a scary place surrounded by beautiful country. Last night I felt dirty as I tried to visit some of the local strip clubs. It’s the exact opposite of what I feel is liberal about stripping for money. They shame the girls into hiding themselves while on stage, and the trip to and from the stage. Pasties are a requirement, the girls can’t give private dances, they can’t talk to customers unless they are on the stage, and they must cover themselves with a grandma looking robe to leave the stage. I was pretty shocked. How do these girls make their money? They only make dollars on the stage (I never saw a single $5 bill up there), they can’t talk to the clients and order a drink to get a kickback from the drink, and they have to sit in the back to wait their next turn on stage to make only a few bucks. I think it’s more degrading than a girl giving a lap dance in any other state. It made me feel dirty and that the girls should be shameful for showing their bodies since they have to hide them so quickly after their songs are over. Of course this is all my personal opinion and I am sure there are a bunch of religious fanatics in this town who say that this is the best and only way to have an “adult” scene in Salt Lake City. I think I stayed a total of 5 min in the two clubs I visited before I was so disturbed that I had to leave.

Ok I have to get off of my computer because people are walking up and literally looking over my shoulder to ask what I am doing… wow. Speakers are about to start up so hopefully it will be good and the religious fanatics don’t start asking me what the website printed on my badge is all about. I might be shunned out of the state 🙂

The Polar Opposite of Las Vegas..

Sex In Zion

I stumbled upon the article above somehow and was just amazed at how things work sometimes in Utah, our neighbor to the northeast. Mormons have quite a presence in Las Vegas (after all, they really were the first ones here after the Native Americans), but I would never imagine this type of service ever working nor could I ever imagine myself ever trying to work for this type of service. Apparently in the long run it didn’t last, but I am sure there are quite a few other services that are around today.

When I went to the courthouse to apply for my Sexually Oriented Business License from the city, the cheerful clerk’s smile slid downward when she saw what I was applying for. I was fingerprinted and interviewed by a detective who talked of perverts, bestiality, sin and the awful things that could happen to girls sent to meet strange men in hotel rooms. He handed me a pamphlet that began: “She drives carefully, but as fast as she can. She reaches for a piece of gum. It will do until she gets home and scrubs that taste and filth from her mouth.”

I couldn’t hold in my snickers after reading that part…
