Craigslist To Remove Erotic Services Ads

Friday, May 15th, 2009

I know I’m a little behind on this but I came across it the other day and somehow wasn’t surprised after the idiot in New England murdered a girl who’s ad was posted on Craigslist. Ever since the District Attorneys for the 40 some-odd states bent Craigslist over their knee to comply with tracking ads, I wasn’t surprised it came down to this. Of course they are just renaming the section but now they will manually screen the posts.

Obviously this is a bad move for Craigslist and a bad move for Internet free speech, or net neutrality. The company has now put themselves into a position that they will be taking some sort of liability by actually posting the ads manually, even though they have no control to the act the person ends up doing after getting a customer through the site. I am all for free speech on the Internet and the whole guidelines that the 1996 Federal Communications Act helped create by protecting the businesses that had web sites run by user generated content, but this is taking a step back and bending for the government so that they have more control. Prostitution is going to happen, no matter how hard you try to stop it. I think Craigslist made some of the police departments around the country kind of lazy because to them, it was like shooting fish in a barrel!

I, personally, used to post ads on Craigslist years ago and stopped when they first started cracking down (especially after I got busted myself) and haven’t really been back since. To me I did it because I had run out of all other options and it was slow around town and walking through casinos and sitting at bars made me really nervous. I just don’t see what the big deal was on there. Men would call up immediately on the phone as soon as it was posted (mostly locals) and were trying to see how far their $150 would go, but then would act extremely insulted when I said that would be okay for a starting point. It rarely got me decent $ and all of the clients had a holier-than-thou attitude. I like it when people treat me on the same level, not like they are so far above me… so I got annoyed quick and after going to jail for it, I stopped.

The funny thing is I found out about this from my new favorite website, http://www.textsfromlastnight.com on a post over here . If you have a spare few hours, the site is hilarious.

News Heard Through The Hooker Grapevine

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Believe it or not, I didn’t come up with the phrase of “hooker grapevine”. It happened to be a cop that was helping me out after an incident unrelated to my profession downtown and worked the desk on his off nights for incident reports. He was going on about how he used to work for vice and thought “those girls that work are only giving people what they want and not really doing wrong”. Wish more cops thought that way…

Anyway I am going to have a few entries sporadically when I hear about some of the silly stuff from girls that they consider big “news” and is almost all bullsh*t they heard through some girl who heard it from another girl. Some girls are smart but for the most part a lot of them don’t think rationally when they hear the gossip about the latest hooker news. Here are some examples:

1) Clark County has no “incrimination” laws:
I constantly hear girls and especially *customers* who are absolutely convinced that if they ask a person “Are you a cop?” they must answer truthfully if they are or not. First of all… the word incrimination is misused. The real “incrimination law” is more in context with our US Constitution with “pleading the fifth”, and not in this terrible use of the word when dealing with identifying local law enforcement. I roll my eyes every time someone asks me if I am a cop and how you are legally supposed to answer it truthfully if you *were* a cop. This idiotic logic makes my head spin.

2) No More releases of detainees on their own recognizance when arrested by Vice
I’ve heard this “news” from two different girls. One was back in August and more recently a girl who was arrested last week on purely trespassing but was done by vice. I don’t get this discrimination of on department of law enforcement to another. How would the vice department have more special rules than say, you being arrested for a DUI or burglary? It makes no sense at all and sounds like a bunch of crap the officers told them. I hope it’s not true, that’s for sure!

3) Craigslist busts during the daytime
If this little story is true then they have been trying new things out at the police dept. I know Craigslist has long been notoriously high with busts off and on for years and now with the “erotic services” being in the news so much lately because of the new regulations (which I think violates Internet free speech) I am not surprised if the story ended up to be true.

So there’s my three little news stories for today. I’m trying to work right now and waiting for my phone to ring but so far it’s a bunch of people wanting to play jokes. Sad

A Rare Vegas Rain Storm

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

Yes it’s actually raining in the desert. I love the rain lots except when I am working. It turns a night that could be good into a no call night. If you don’t have people walking down the strip or around town then you have no way of reaching them with advertising except with Internet or Yellowpages. Only one of the companies I work for now even use the Yellowpages and the rest rely on advertising on the streets. The reason why more companies don’t use the phone book is because of the incredibly expensive rates you have to pay every six months to keep an ad. Takes so many calls constantly to even break even on those ads. I understand why most companies stick to people passing out cards or little magazine stands.

The only call I received tonight was from my Eros ad from a guy at Circus Circus who had a bad listening problem. I really hate it when people call and don’t say hi or “my name is” and immediately just ask, “what do you charge per hour”. I respond with, “Well I like to come meet you and talk to you in person first but my entertainment starts at $$ and goes up from there. I don’t have any specific rates for hour or half hour it just ranges depending on the level of entertainment.” I know quite a few girls in other cities work on an hour or half hour rates, but what girls ends up doing around here is charging for whatever act they perform. I do take my time and all because I want the customers to enjoy themselves and not think I am just running off. Anyway, this guy kept pushing me to say what I do for my minimum price and what sexual acts does it include. I say that is illegal and I don’t like to talk on the phone anyway like I said before. I suggested for me to come by and meet him under no obligation (to perform my little tests so I feel more comfortable) but he just responded with an “I’ll call you back”. He called back 10 minutes later again asking me more pointed sexual questions and how much to get out of the atm. I again repeated that I would love to come meet him but I cannot answer his questions without coming over first. He said another “I’ll call you back”, but of course he didn’t. I am sure I frustrate a lot of guys by saying that I would like to come over first but they have to understand that no one can talk about sexual acts over the phone. In the end, maybe I am the only frustrated one
