Brothels and Prostitution 101

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Recently I found an article in the Review Journal about a school from Lynchburg, Virginia who decided to take a field trip to the brothels outside of Las Vegas. Not your ordinary field trip for sure. The class sounded like an interesting one though and consisted of examining how we all are consumers and what do we consume. They visited northeastern Nevada where they want to pipe water for several hundred miles to Las Vegas (a plan I don’t agree with for sure), some farms, and last but not least the Chicken Ranch Brothel out in Pahrump, Nevada (one of Las Vegas’ closest bordellos people can visit). Apparently the media got a hold of such a field trip and decided to join the 11 women visiting from the Virginia school at the Chicken Ranch. I wish I would have known because I would have wanted the tour as well! I have read the book about the Mustang Ranch by Alexa Albert and have always been curious to learn more about the legal side of prostitution.

Anyway why I mentioned this article is because I was slightly shocked at the women being open minded to such a discussion. One girl was quoted saying, “”People keep asking me if this has changed my opinion about prostitution. I’m not sure I had an opinion on prostitution.” She said also that she “found it hard to condemn the industry after seeing it in person.” Good article and I love hearing about normal people experiencing different things and having an open mind about it. Wish more Americans were the same way…  Here is some more legal Nevada brothel information.

Waiting For The Fall Pickup…

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

I have all of these entries and stories I want to write about but I am having a hard time sitting down and writing them! So I do apologize…

Well I made it through September (which is the second to slowest month of the year… December being the slowest) and October has picked up some but the usual $ isn’t there. Lets cross our fingers!

It’s been a long time since I had a bad call but last week was the first time in maybe a year something happened to me. I don’t want to focus on the negative, but I had 3 Chinese men push me and pull me and ended up grabbing my purse to take the fee back. Thankfully nothing was in my purse or the fee… I had stuffed it in my pants. Thanks to whomever random tourist who had heard me screaming in the hallway came up and scared the guys off of me. I thought it would have never ended. I don’t understand how foreigners think that they will get sex for $100 when I clearly explained things to them. A hundred dollars won’t even get 2 people a decent meal in this town so why would I entertain for $100?

In other news, the infamous Mustang Ranch reopened a few months back. This was the first licensed brothel in Nevada in the early 1970’s but was shut down a number of times due to the owner’s feuds with the IRS. Tisk tisk. A real estate investor bought it and apparently turned it into a nice looking place that even I would like to go visit. You can check out more about the crazy history of the brothel here

Why I was interested in the reopening of the brothel was because I read a book a number of years ago by Alexa Albert that really intrigued me about the whole bordello life in Nevada and it was written while she stayed at the Mustang Ranch to observe. I didn’t live in Nevada at the time nor was I an escort then. It was a peek at a mysterious life and it was written well. I personally couldn’t see myself working in a whorehouse out in the middle of nowhere in the desert for weeks at a time. The house takes half plus you have to pay a little for your room and food. The other reason I could not see myself at a ranch is the girls end up having to do things that I don’t want to do. I don’t let clients perform oral sex on me nor kiss on the mouth and it seems like that is almost a requirement there.  My reasons aren’t because it’s “personal”. It’s for my health, safety and really… I don’t want it. Simple as that.

I’m Back Like Brothel Advertisements in Las Vegas!

Friday, September 14th, 2007

So between going on trips out of town and fighting off some sort of horrible bug going around town, I haven’t been up to much else but ignoring my blog! Now that it has gone so long without a post it’s hard to get back into the groove of things and check on it and read stuff daily. Got to work on getting back into the routine, for sure.

September has been a sluggish month, for sure, but I was kind of expecting it since last year this month was completely DEAD. So dead it frightened me. Everyone’s kids go back to school and so there isn’t so much off time for people to make their pilgrimages to Las Vegas to indulge in their sins … aka, me!

One thing that has happened worth noting and has been in the news recently is the ban that was lifted off of legal brothels advertising in counties where prostitution is illegal (Clark and Washoe). (Las Vegas brothels have been allowed to advertise their brothels located near Las Vegas, Nevada online all along.) I don’t understand why this went on for so long. I guess owners forgot about their First Amendment rights? For 28 years?  Someone finally challenged the ban that was placed in 1979 that prohibits these establishments from advertising in Las Vegas and surrounding area and in Reno. Glad to hear they won that but I still don’t see too much of a threat from these advertisements for the legal brothels. Las Vegas’ nearest brother is the Chicken Ranch or Sheri’s Ranch, which is about 60 miles away. That’s one heck of a cab ride or you can have them pick you up as long as you are spending a certain amount of money at the ranch. Even then, I couldn’t imagine traveling that distance horny only to show up and maybe not like the girls. I have seen clients who go out there only to come back to say they are pricey and the girls weren’t top notch to charge those prices. I might end up charging the same as the girls there (sometimes less), but who doesn’t like room service that comes with tits and ass?  It’s all about convenience.

Trouble in Sin City

Friday, January 5th, 2007

So I am back! Took a little leave of absence.. some of it against my will and some time to travel back to my home state to see family and friends for the holidays. Came back to Las Vegas in time to ring in the New Year and now back to working in 2007. I ended up not working the night of New Years Eve, but if you have been to Vegas for New Years you know its impossible to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time. In fact, if you get anywhere it will probably be on foot. That is definitely not my favorite mode of transportation.

My unfortunate “vacation” against my will before the holidays was spent in the fine facility of the Clark County Detention center. I won’t go into too specific details (maybe after the case is over) but it was another one of the Vice squads immature ways to lure people to arrest them for the most trite reasons. It just makes me furious how in “Sin City” how prostitution is illegal but only an hour drive away in Nye County it is perfectly legal. I mean the city’s motto is “What happens here stays here” but yet there is a movement to take the sin out of Sin City. For example the new no smoking ban (ok I like that law), the ridiculously strict rules of lap dances, and some other issues that have been in legislature lately in the Las Vegas area. I understand arrests from officers when prostitutes are affecting the look of the city. For example, trashy looking girls walking up and down West Tropicana, hassling people on the Strip, or making a scene by picking up guys at hotel bars. What I don’t understand is when they arrest people like me. I advertise online or go through an agency, I show up to a hotel only to go directly upstairs, and then provide whatever services privately in the room. I don’t loiter and I usually leave immediately. I don’t dress flashy and don’t attract attention by what I wear.

So what are they even trying to accomplish? Cleaning up the Internet? Hardly. Trying to save me from a life they disapprove of? I am sure they feel like they are “saving” me. I know that they think that I am a horribly disgusting, un-clean girl when I am in fact the polar opposite. When I was going to be released out of jail, the first time I was arrested, an officer said to me and the 12 other girls who had been arrested at the same time, “I don’t understand why they bother with you girls by arresting so many of you. It messes us up down at the jail since they bring so many in at once… and frankly, all you are doing is making the tourists happy and giving them what they want”.

Too bad there aren’t more of those kinds of people in politics. I know our mayor wanted a few years ago some sort of red light district downtown but I know Oscar Goodman would have hell trying to get that passed. I would actually like to be more of an activist on the subject of prostitution in politics. I would love suggestions on where to find such web sites.

Last but not least happy New Year everyone!
