NBA All Star Game Las Vegas 2007: Recipe For Disaster or Success?
Yesterday began the All Star Game countdown. The weekend is filled with lots of events and the people are coming in by the plane and busload for the game on Sunday. The city is kind of overwhelmed by the demographic, especially the police force. While driving around last night going to calls I started noticing the number of cop cars, paddy wagons, cops on bikes, decoy cop cars positioned in busy intersections, and cops in places I have never seen before like the shopping mall. I told a girl who answers the phones at a service about the number of police that I have noticed around town and she said when she watched the news that they will be using more cops than on New Years. I found an article about the stepping up of security that says this:
“He says on a normal day, 150 officers will work special events for overtime. Starting this weekend, 1,000 additional officers will be used each day in and around the Las Vegas strip.”
Wow… that’s crazy. I wonder how many cops work the New Years bash. Like the pointed out in that article though, at New Years the party is pretty centralized, but with the All Star game there are events all over the city at the same time bigger than NYE.
I was driving around at 5am this morning and couldn’t believe the number of people still cruising or loitering on the streets. Usually it’s empty by then and the only people that are left are going to work at casinos. Speaking of casinos, I wonder how much gambling will actually take place? The casino pits seemed a little sparse last night and I know the players and celebrities will spend some big money, but what about the fans? We shall see.
Anyway, last night I only had one call actually go through and made money. The rest of the calls were a waste of time or there was some sort of language barrier. Hopefully tonight I will be running around like crazy and making money.
“or there was some sort of language barrier.”
hahaha oh gosh that just made me chuckle a bit, just sounded really funny 🙂 I’m sure it wasn’t though… but I got images in my head of small chinese men speaking rapidly in Cantonse to you occasionally uttering the odd english word like “doggy!” while you with escalating frustration/annoyance/confusion backs out of their hotel room, fleeing the time wasters quick as you can… Sorry I have vivid imagination 😛
February 19th, 2007 at 12:56 amWhen a big event comes to Vegas, such as the All-Star Game or the CES, I assume the demand for sex workers increases. Do you see a corresponding increase in the number of sex workers, or do the sex workers who are already in the game simply work more? I don’t suppose you network with all the girls (or boys) in town, but I thought if anyone would have an idea about this, it would be someone like you or the LVPD vice squad.

Del: The demand does increase but at the same time some businessmen for the CES or NAB show don’t end up having much time (or the now tight business accounts) to get girls. The NBA All Star game was a WHOLE different animal. The game attracted the hip-hop pop culture along with ghetto cheap girls walking down the strip with things I would wear to a swimming pool, not wear down the strip. I will make a post soon on the aftermath of the All Star game.. the arrest numbers will make you choke.
